Our Seattle road trip cemented two facts for me: Seattle is a top ice cream city and good company can make a road trip go faster.
Tara and I started our trip by missing our first turn off to Seattle, luckily for us it did not add too much time to our trip. We made good time, saw the great state of Washington and made a stop at Winegars in Ellensburg.
The day of the festival, our first stop was Shug’s Soda Fountain which on top of a good cup of coffee kick started our morning. Shug’s is an old fashioned soda fountain and their staff was awesome. They opened up early for us, and served us up a beautiful sundae called the creasted laurie.
After Shug’s, we grabbed the link up to Capital Hill and arrived just in time for festival to begin. We grabbed a spot in Kurt’s Farm Shop line and it lived up to our expectations. I had a great bay leaf ice cream that I still can’t get out of mind. By the time we were finished, the courtyard had filled up. We started our strategy of getting in any line and seeing where we ended up. We tried Trove, Half Pint and Pink’s.
But we didn’t stop there, we headed out from the festival to Cupcake Royale which was maybe a block away. We both had a scoop of rhubarb rose sorbet and lemon preserve butermilk ice cream. From there, we also traveled up to U district to try Full Tilt. After wandering through UW, we somehow ended up in a middle of a street festival and got to try Sweet Alchemy. Full Tilt ended up being the perfect end to our day with a great ube ice cream.
